包头人民广播电台创办于1956年7月1日，座落在美丽的草原钢城，隶属于包头市广播电视局。包头人民广播电台现拥有中波、调频、有线调频和网上广播四种传输覆盖手段，办有新闻综合频率（中波558千赫、调频94.9兆赫、有线调频100兆赫）、交通文艺频率（调频89．2兆赫、有线调频102兆赫）、生活娱乐频率（调频１０５.９兆赫）、城乡音乐频率（调频１００.１兆赫）四套广播节目，总播出时间近80个小时；同时承担着中央电台一套和内蒙古电台汉语新闻频率部分节目的转播任务，发射总功率为１８千瓦。目前，以新闻为龙头的各类节目的采、编、播、录初步实现数字化，传输、发射实现了固态化，播出节目覆盖市四区及毗邻地区，第一套节目在远郊旗县区已经实现了调频同频覆盖。
