El proyecto de una estación cultural en la ciudad venía gestándose desde 1977 por un polifacético grupo del tecnológico interesados por la industria de la radio. La voluntad inquebrantable de los compañeros logró que la Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transportes (SCT) les concediera en 1987 la frecuencia “88.7 FM”, las siglas “XHITT”, y la identidad “Radio Tecnológico Cultural”. Y acordaron el lema: “Voz y Pensamiento Cultural de la Frontera”.
